What to do when sensitive information is detected

Audience: users. Editorial review: 2026-09-15.

A detection means a rule or analysis identified content that needs review. It does not mean every sensitive item is covered or that any send is authorized.

  1. Read the notice and review the highlighted items within Defend.
  2. Check that the remaining content complies with your organization’s policy.
  3. If a detection is incorrect, use only the review options provided by your version and allowed by your permissions.
  4. If the result is unclear, cancel the send and ask your administrator using an equivalent fictional example.

You make an informed decision before sending. Do not turn Defend off or paste the original into another tool to bypass a review.

See check protection, troubleshooting and frequently asked questions. If the issue persists, contact your administrator without sharing sensitive data.
