Protection rules and categories

Audience: administrators. Editorial review: 2026-09-15.

Rules describe what Defend should recognize under your organization’s configuration. A category helps organize detections; it does not guarantee complete coverage by itself.

  1. Open the rules section available in your dashboard.
  2. Identify the rule, category and state before changing it.
  3. Use invented examples that should be detected and similar examples that should not.
  4. Review the effects before applying a change to your team. Check the extension state afterwards.

You can explain the rule’s coverage and limits. Available lists and actions depend on permissions and version. If you cannot edit, request the change from an authorized administrator; do not turn user protection off to compensate.

See check protection, troubleshooting and frequently asked questions. If the issue persists, contact your administrator without sharing sensitive data.
